Best of 2023

I wasn’t very productive in 2023, mainly due to my new job. But I did manage to get out on a few photo shoots. Most recently to Santa Cruz, where I shot Monarch butterflies as they winter in the trees near the beach on their migration to Mexico. Butterflies migrate over 5000 miles? Who knew?

The Super Full Moon was supposed to be blue, but the wildfires in northern California made the atmosphere more orange. The setting moon here was captured at Pillar Point in Half Moon Bay. The moon’s path took it right beside the Air Force radar installment on the Mavericks ridge just past the harbor.

A day trip up the Sonoma coast was mostly a bust. Except for a couple of images. this one near Arched Rock Beach.

In Yosemite, the spring runoff was spectacular. All of the famous waterfalls in the valley were filled and flowing to the brim. And a number of unnamed “valunteer” falls dotted the valley walls. Here is Bridal Veil Falls. Yosemite falls from the valley floor, and a close up of the base of the falls.

Finally, I have started to capture random people for street portraits, these are my favorites, so far.
